Where Did That Time Go??

Warwick University Clocks

Way back in 1999 Richard Wentworth, the renowned artist, approached us to manufacture and install a four-clock project, using 1100mm diameter clocks.

We have had the pleasure of looking after the installation every since, however after 25 years, a decision was made to upgrade the movements, hands and master clock to modern equipment using readily available stock items, supplied by our Business partner MobaTime.

The design required the cases to be quite shallow as well as illuminated, meaning commercially available suitable movements were exceptionally limited at the time, so the decision was made to install bespoke manufactured equipment.

25 years later and the GSEM100T movements with matching hands are produced and are perfect for the job.

The GSEM100T is a self-setting movement for dials up to 1meter in diameter for hands under glass. The Movement is powered and synchronised via a ECT (GM8M or GM9) master clock.

The upgrade was carried out by our engineers, over a two-day period, using mobile scaffolding and a scissor lift.

The clocks now look great with ladle type red seconds hand, modelled on the SBS Swiss Railway clocks and Richard Wentworth was said to be very pleased with the result.

We will still maintain the clocks as part of our service and expect them to last another 25 years, who knows what type of movements will be available then?? Only time will tell……..Excuse the pun!!
